Our Story

Enchanted Mountain Garden Club of Allegany is an all-volunteer, Not for Profit corporation formed for the purpose of encouraging civic interest in the beautification of the village and town of Allegany, New York.

Our mission includes designing, planting, and maintaining flowers in 27 planters & 57 subway beds. In addition, we strive to form connections with local businesses and our town and village boards to help create a walkable community and a sustainable business section. With support of our donors, we have been able to accomplish so much, including:

-Enhance the Allegany River Park Boat Launch area by planting trees, installing memorial trees and park benches, and adding flowers around the park sign

-Add dog waste bag stations near the Town Hall and in Allegany River Park

-Plant spring blooming bulbs and native, pollinator friendly plantings to the Boat Launch area and at one of our local intersections

-Continue the flower plantings and their maintenance along Main Street in the village, including the addition of mums for the fall season

-Present our third annual Scarecrow Row, including 30+ community created decorations displayed throughout the village

-Replace and improve plantings near the flagpole at the Town Hall that were removed due to the gazebo construction last year. The club continues to maintain the flagpole and Veterans’ monument site to honor our fallen heroes

-Continue the free seed library in the Allegany Library

-Continue work with the BonaGany organization, getting their help to clean up along Main Street, including weeding and window washing

-Host gardening-related educational programs which are free and open to the community. This season’s topics included

     -Pruning

-Raised Beds & Square Foot Gardening

     -Native Plants & Trees

     -Inviting Wildlife into your Garden

     -Reducing Single Use Plastics

     -Wild Birds of WNY

-Kick off a membership campaign and continue to welcome all to join in our ongoing efforts to improve and beautify the Allegany area

Going forward, with help from donors, we hope to expand our work by realizing these dreamscape goals:

-Coordinating a picnic to kick off the spring season at the Allegany River Park & new Skate Park

-Continuing to beautify the River Park and Boat Launch areas. We hope to coordinate cleaning up of debris, removing dead foliage, repainting older benches, and naturalizing wildflowers along the riverbank while maintaining visual access to the river

-Supporting the display of an outdoor Christmas tree in the village and promoting an outdoor holiday market

-Sponsoring a mural on a local business exterior wall

-Continuing community music events

-Contributing to snowflake lights and lights in the trees of the village

-Supporting a sidewalk chalk art festival coordinated by the Allegany Limestone Central School

-Installing a Gold Star Family tribute plaque near the Veterans' monument

Please consider making a donation to help us beautify Allegany and make these plans a reality!
